BBS Consultants, Inc. has acquired all rights to the very popular fantasy,
roll playing game The Wild Side from the author and is pleased to announce
the release of The Wild Side v1.20 for TBBS/TDBS. In version 1.20, all
known "bugs" have been fixed, a new interface for reading the game
instructions has been added, and the first of month automatic reset has
been made much more robust. In addition to The Wild Side itself, all of
the associated utility programs have been upgraded to BBS Consultants,
Inc. very demanding standards for commercial quality software.

The Wild Side! is a true multi-user adventure game targeted for user
audiences 18 years of age or older only. The object of the game is having
sexual encounters as often and with as many people as possible. In the
game's safe fantasy world, players can enjoy any sexual behavior they wish
without ruining their marriage, contracting diseases, or hanging out in a
smoke-filled bar. The worst thing that can happen to a player is losing
 the game!

Although the game has an adult theme, the system operator has full control
over virtually every aspect of the game. It can be configured to be as
tame or as raunchy as the sysop, the users, or community standards
dictate. Game play can be controlled totally as well -- the game can be
as easy or as challenging as the sysop desires.

The Wild Side! has a longer "shelf life" than most games due to its
auto-reset with map change capability, sysop tuning of playability,
extensive databases and configuration capabilities. Although The Wild
Side! can take care of itself when left alone, with a little attention
from the sysop, the game can be considerably more exciting and
ever-changing to prevent premature user burnout.

Like most adventure games, The Wild Side! is organized as a series of
rooms. Players begin in room 1, and roam around looking for items to
pick-up, people to have encounters with, and things to do.

When a player finds someone to have an encounter with, they may get a cold
shoulder! That's where the items come into play. There are two types:
 OFFensive, and DEFensive.

Offensive items are those items players use on someone else when they want
to have an encounter with them. Each time an offensive item is used, the
"target" player's resistance will be worn down a bit.

Defensive items "repel" MATCHING offensive items, and prevent another
player's matching offensive item from having any effect on you when they
use it. A user doesn't have to be online for a defensive item in their
 possession to have an effect.

The various items have varying levels of strength. The higher the
strength of an offensive item, the more effect it has when used on another
 player.

Each time you use an item, it's used up, and is taken from you.

New players are started out with some points to help get going. Picking
up defensive items, buying special items, and other activities take points
away. Having an encounter (among other things) will add points to the
 player's score.

When a player finds another player in a room with them, they may wish to
try and have an encounter with them. They start by arousing them. If
they're really lucky, the "target" player submits right away. Usually
they'll have to use one or more of their offensive items on that person to
 break down their resistance.

Once the object of the player's affection submits to them, they can have
an encounter in one of four different ways. The player picks the one most
appealing and gets points for their efforts. Sexual compatibility (or
lack thereof) may result in bonus points -- or a point penalty. After the
encounter, the player can leave a message to the person they had the
encounter with to get bonus points.

The more encounters a player has, the more experience they'll get. Players
start out as rookies, then become experienced, then a stud (or studette!),
then a pro. The higher the level, the more points they get from an
encounter -- and the more points they lose when penalized for something.

Also featured in the game are:

o Pay phones (for calls to 1-900- and 976- lines), which can result in
   point bonuses -- or penalties.

o Risk of contracting VD, with commensurate "protection" available.

 o Secret passages (configurable).

o Showers and refrigerators (configurable) for bonus point during an
   encounter.

o Users can buy and name their own rooms, then when anyone has an
encounter in the room, that player gets bonus points.

o Full support for gender and sexual preference, the game allows only
   logical combinations during an encounter.

o Users' sexual position preferences taken into account during an
encounter for bonus points for compatibility -- or a penalty for
   incompatibility.

o Built-in TBBS-like chat system for users in the game. Also allows users
to send a message to another user in the game.

o Event notification system notifies all players when others enter or exit
the game. Also tells a player online when another player online is
arousing them or having an encounter with them.

 o Built-in TBBS-like mini-message system allows users to leave a message
to a player after an encounter for bonus points.

o Activity log, available for viewing by all players, shows encounters
between players, room additions, alias changes and more.

o Players can change their alias in the game or other characteristics at
   any time.

o Any number of "shill" players supported. These fake, robotic players
help get the game started initially, and help even out any imbalance of
gender or sexual preference among players.

 o Full inactivity timeout support.  Reads TBBS system timeout if possible;
if not, it defaults to 5 minute inactivity setting. If a user exceeds
the timeout sitting idle in the game, the game exits automatically!

For sysops, several utility programs are included:

o System configuration program. Adjust game settings, bonus point
settings, and cost settings for virtually every aspect of the game.
Over 45 separate adjustments give you full control.

o Item database control program. Edit the game's item database, add more
items to the game, browse or add items to the master item databases, and
more. Full control over defensive and offensive items and their mixture,
type and quantity in the game.

o Player database control program. View and edit every aspect of any
   player's game information.

o Map database control program. View and edit existing rooms in the game,
or add more. Control what's available in each room, and where each room
   leads.

o Database "scrub" utility corrects database errors which arise from
careless manual edits to the database.

o Database reindex utility creates new indexes if necessary.

o "Ghost" program, installed as a TBBS ghost event, corrects some types of
database errors and performs a daily database maintenance operation.

o Item inventory list creation program. Let's you see the items available
in all rooms and their distribution at any given point.
