Dolch to Offer Portable 486 System

Microbytes Daily News Service Copyright (c) 1989, McGraw-Hill, Inc. With all
the 80486-based systems being announced lately, it was just a matter of time
before a portable system appeared. Yestreday, it did has, and the name on the
keyboard logo is Dolch, a small San Jose manufacturer that is attempting to
carve out a niche in the high-performance-portable market.

The system looks like a miniature briefcase, somewhat like the Compaq Portable
III. But in weight and capabilities, the new Dolch PAC 486-25 seems more like a
desktop than a portable. At just under 20 pounds, it is one of the heavier
portables around. And with three AT-style expansion slots, it is also one of
the most expandable. The new Dolch system also sports a desktop-sized price:
$12,995 for a unit with a 100-megabyte hard disk.

Like other Dolch systems, the portable will come standard with a 640 x 400
CGA-compatible electroluminescent (yellow-on-black) display. For $595 extra,
however, you can get a VGA-compatible 16-shade gas-plasma (red-on-black)
display.

The new computer is slated to be available near the end of November.
