Toshiba announced this week that it is again venturing into the
desktop-computer arena, this time with a system that is 100%
IBM-compatible. Several years ago, Toshiba introduced a modular
personal computer called the T-100. Like many similar systems
that were not IBM-compatible, the Toshiba computer soon
disappeared.

The new Toshiba system is a compact 25-MHz 80386-based system
called the T8500. The system is so small that at first glance
it looks almost like a large T5200 laptop with a keyboard and
monitor attached. Unlike most other IBM-compatibles, the new
Toshiba machine includes a built-in SCSI port. It will be
available in December for $7799, the company said.
