NEW YORK (Microbytes Daily News Service) --- Intel announced at
Unix Expo a "shrink-wrapped" version of Unix for its chips. The
new operating system takes advantage of the Applications Binary
Interface codeveloped by Intel and AT&T and incorporated into the
latest Unix. Intel's Unix System V/386 Release 3.2 is available
now, and the Release 4.0 version should ship in the first quarter
of 1990, the chipmaker said. That release will incorporate the
functionality of Unix V.4 as well as support for NFS, TCP/IP, and
X Window. Locus Merge, a "DOS-under-Unix" program, and both the
Open Look and OSF/Motif graphical user interfaces will also be
included.
