Toccata is a SQL-based database repository that lets you
integrate dBASE, 1-2-3, flat files, ISAM (Indexed Sequential
Access Method), and the company's Alphanumeric Interchange
format without requiring any data transfer among applications or
restructuring, its developer reports. Because it runs under
Microsoft Windows, Toccata lets you build applications without
seeing the command line interface, according to Business
Planning Systems. Toccata started shipping last month.

Once Toccata organizes your applications into an integrated
family, you use its six application processors to create
applications that can perform such operations as joining a
1-2-3 worksheet with a dBASE table or aggregating a hierarchical
file to the 1-2-3 format. The repository editor makes updating
and maintaining your application steps a simple procedure, the
company says.

For example, you could create an accounting application to
automate the fixed-asset depreciation calculation and
depreciation master update, to increase staff productivity,
ensure accuracy, and remain current with IRS rules. Toccata
works with the ledger and depreciation master tables from
dBASE, but sends all depreciation summaries to 1-2-3 for use in
financial applications.

Toccata runs on the IBM PC AT with 512K bytes of RAM, a hard
disk drive, and Windows/286.

Price: $495.
