Madge Networks introduced its entry into the EISA add-in board
arena with the Smart 16/4 EISA Ringnode. As the name implies, the
card is designed for 802.5 Token Ring networks with Texas
Instruments 4- and 16-megabit per second chip sets at its heart.
The Ring Node will be available in early 1991.

Madge Networks says it also uses the company's Smart Server
software for bus mastering capabilities in both the EISA bus and
the MCA bus systems. Bus mastering occurs when the add-in card
takes control of the bus from the system's main CPU. With EISA
bus and bus mastering capabilities, the Smart 16/4 EISA Ringnode
can achieve internal electrical transfers in your system at the
maximum speed of the EISA bus -- 33 megabytes per second, Madge
Networks claims.

The Smart Server software also helps you download NetBIOS and
IPX/SPX onto each adapter's 128K bytes of RAM, which can free as
much as 50K bytes of DOS memory, Madge Networks says.

Price: Samples, $1495.
