#title(Moderated Area)
Select whether Usenet moderation should be activated on this
area. If selected, all articles are sent to the moderator
instead of being posted in the newsgroup.

Do not enable this unless a moderator is required for this
area, you know the e-mail address, or the BackBone field is
set properly under the RFC Settings.

#subtopic(AreaEdit Moderated)
#title(Moderated)
Select Not to disable moderation.

Select E-mail to enable moderation. You will have to enter
the e-mail address of the moderator. If you leave it empty,
the automatic newsgroup e-mail address on the backbone will
be used.

#subtopic(AreaEdit ModeratorEmail)
#title(Moderator e-mail)
Enter a complete UUCP domain address for the moderator of this area,

Example: jan@pwrdial.network.nl

If no moderator is defined, then the message is sent to system defined
in the @BackBone@ field. A message in the area comp.bbs.misc.d is then
sent to 'comp-bbs-misc-d@backbone'.

Select which of your system AKAs to use as the FTN "sender" address
for this area.

The AKA is used to create the correct Origin line, either when
automatically adding a missing Origin during export, or when gating
a news article from RFC to FTN.

Position the cursor over the AKA you want to select and then press
Enter to make the selection. When this window is opened, the cursor
is automatically placed on the currently selected AKA.

; Area Definition Editor
;
#topic(Area Definition Editor)
#title(Area Definition)
This topic is related to the fields of an Area Definition that can
be editted with WtrConf.

#subtopic(AreaEdit AreaName)
#title(Area name)
Enter the name of the area here.
Each areaname should be unique on your system. Usually you would
use names defined by the networks you are connected to.

You can supply different area names for FTN and RFC. The FTN name
is usally in all upper case and the RFC name is usally all lower
case. Some characters allowed in the RFC name are not valid in the
FTN name. #hl(Neither name must contain a space!)

Examples:

 FTN name: UNIX.028
 RFC name: fido.unix.028

 FTN name: COMP.LANG.CPP
 RFC name:  comp.lang.c++

#subtopic(AreaEdit Comment)
#title(Comment)
A short description of the area, this information is shown to users that
request a listing of available areas using the @Area Manager@ @Query@
command.

#subtopic(AreaEdit AreaType)
#title(Type)
Select the type for this area.

#hl(ECHO): The group is exported to all connected systems

#hl(NET): Messages in this area are treated are netmail messages and
are transported to the correct matrix address.

#hl(LOCAL): A local area is not exported to any system, but by defining
it here you can use #WTRUTIL# to do maintenance on the area.

#hl(E-MAIL): An e-mail area is a special echomail type area where you
write e-mails as you would in a netmail area, but without
writing the To address. WaterGate automatically changes the
message into an netmail and sends it to the gateway.

#subtopic(AreaEdit InGroups)
#title(In groups)
A single area can be in multiple groups, to allow maximum flexibility
in allowing your users to access each area.

#subtopic(AreaEdit Subscribers)
#title(Subscribers)
Use this option to add or remove users from this area. A listing is
shown of all users that are currently connected to the area.

Insert - Gives a list of users not already connected to the area
 Delete - Remove a user

#subtopic(AreaEdit AllowPassive)
#title(Allow passive)
An Area is made passive by WtrGate when there is only one
link left after a user disconnects from a pass-through area. WtrGate
will then try to disconnect the area from the uplink by sending
an AreaFix message. The area itself is not removed.

When one of your downlinks connects to the area, your uplink is
notified that it should reconnect the area, and the passive flag
is reset.

If for some reason, you do not want WtrGate to automatically
disconnect this area from your uplink set "Allow Passive" to No.

#subtopic(AreaEdit Passive)
#title(Passive)
This flag reflects the Passive status of this area. You should have
no reason to change its status, although you can.

#subtopic(AreaEdit Mandatory)
#title(Mandatory)
By setting Mandatory to Yes prevents users from disconnecting the
area with AreaFix or newsfix.

Note: You still need to connect the users yourself!

#subtopic(AreaEdit RulesFile)
#title(Rules file)
The Rules file is sent to the user when s/he connects the area
using Areafix (FTN users) or newsfix (UUCP users). The file can
be used to welcome to user and inform him/her about the rules
of the area, like the language used and the use of the area.

The rules file is a plain text file, is allowed to contain
tokens and will be sent using netmail or e-mail.

Use F3 to select the file using the File Manager.

#subtopic(AreaEdit Origin)
#title(Origin)
Press Enter on this field to select the Origin line to use for
this area. You will be able to select one of the two system
origin lines, or enter a custom origin line that is used for
this area only.

#subtopic(AreaEdit OriginAKA)
#title(Origin AKA)
Select the system node number used for this area. It is used when
WtrGate creates an Origin line.

#subtopic(AreaEdit AddSEENBY)
#title(AddSEENBY)
List of AKAs that will be added to the SEEN-BY lists of this area.

#subtopic(AreaEdit Moderator)
#title(Moderator)
Press Enter on this field to change the moderation settings
for this area.

You will then be able to enter the e-mail address of the Usenet
moderator and all articles posted in this area will be sent to
the moderator. This person will then approve the message,
whereafter it is posted to the newsgroup.

Notice that this is different from FTN moderation where
the moderator does not have to approve each article before
it is distributed.

#subtopic(AreaEdit DupeHistory)
#title(Dupe history)
This setting decides how long dupe information is kept
for this area. Dupe information for all the messages
passed during this period is kept in the Dupe Database.

The setting is in weeks with a default of 2 weeks.

Setting this option to 0 disables dupe checking for
this area.

#subtopic(AreaEdit MsgBaseType)
#title(Message base type)
Select the type of message base you want to use for this area
by selecting *.MSG, JAM, Squish or WildCat.

The option 'pass-through' select no message base. The messages
are just passing through your system without being stored in
a message base.

#subtopic(AreaEdit MsgBasePath)
#title(Message base path)
Enter a complete path for the selected base type, for @*.MSG@ this should
point to a directory. For all the other types, it should be a full path
including file name (without extension!) for the message base.

#subtopic(AreaEdit MsgBaseAge)
#title(Message age)
The maximum number of days a message is kept in this message base.
Use @0@ if you don't want to remove messages by age.

#subtopic(AreaEdit MsgBaseLimit)
#title(Message limit)
The number of messages that are kept in this message base.
Use @0@ if you don't want to remove messages by number.

#subtopic(AreaEdit DecodeFiles)
#title(Decode files)
When set to ON IMPORT, WaterGate checks if a message contains
an enclosed file. If so, it extracts the file, writes it to
disk and attaches it to the message. Instead of the file a line
like "Extracted file: ****" is written in the body of
the message on the location of the enclosed file.

WaterGate can automatically detect and decode enclosed files
which have been encoded using UU-encode, XX-encode and MIME
encapsulation of the type application/octet-stream.

Notice that extracting files is only done when importing the
message into a message base. Not when passing the message along
to other systems.

 #link(Encoded files info)(About encoded files)

#subtopic(AreaEdit FilesPath)
#title(Files path)
Fill in the path where you want WaterGate to store extracted
files. This way you can define different paths for different
areas.

#subtopic(AreaEdit Charsets)
#title(FTN/RFC Charset)
When a message contains 8-bit characters, WaterGate must know how
to interpret those so it can properly translate them to another
character set when translating from FTN to RFC format or the other
way around.

Sometimes messages do not contain a character set. The two character
set fields allow you to define a character set WaterGate can use
no character set indication is present in the message.

The FTN character set is used for echomail message and the RFC
character set is used for news articles. The character set must be
present in the CHARSETS.TDB file.
#end

; AreaEdit DeleteMsgBaseFilesAsWell
;
#topic(AreaEdit DeleteMsgBaseFilesAsWell)
#title(Delete message base files as well?)
if you choose Yes, WaterGate will delete all *.MSG, Squish or
JAM messagebase files for all areas you want to delete

Select No to keep the message base files and only delete the
area definitions.

Note: WaterGate will not remove any directories, since they can
contain more than just the selected message area.

; AreaGlobEdit NewOriginAKA ChangeSeenByList
;
#topic(AreaGlobEdit NewOriginAKA ChangeSeenByList)
#title(Global new Origin AKA replaces SEEN-BY lists)
The Origin AKA needs to be put in the SEEN-BY lines of the area.
When editing one record, the list of AKAs that are added to
the SEEN-BY lines is emptied, and the newly selected Origin
AKA is put in there instead.

But, if you have more than one AKA in that list, it is not desired
to have it replaced completely. So, in this case, WtrConf just
removes the old Origin AKA from that list and adds the new one,
leaving the rest in place.

If you desire to keep the old Origin AKA on that list, then select
No from the menu. WtrConf then just adds the new AKA. Notice that
this is a means to globally edit the list of SEEN-BY AKAs.

#topic(AreaGlobEdit ChangePath)
#title(Global change area message base path)
To simplify the process of moving your message areas, it is
possible to search and replace directory entry's for more
than a single area at a time. This option will #hl(not) physically
move the message bases on your hard disk!

To use this option, first enter the begin part of the old
directory, and then the new path.

Example:

  Old: C:\MAIL\MSGBASE
  New: D:\MAIL\NEWBASE

After entering this information, the program will compare the
begin part of each of the selected areas, and replace it with
the new information if it matched.

Example when using the above input:

 #hl(Old) #hl(New)
 C:\MAIL\MSGBASE\JUMJUM D:\MAIL\NEWBASE\JUMJUM
 C:\MAIL\MSGBASE\JUCK D:\MAIL\NEWBASE\JUCK
