FtpServer (Peter Moylan's FTP daemon)
=============================================
Last updated 2005-03-20
Current version: 1.291

This is shareware, but unregistered copies are not crippled.
For more details, read FtpServer.INF.

Note that this version is significantly different from version
0.70, in that symbolic links are implemented. You will see
the difference when running the Setup (or VIOSetup) program.

Upgrades from versions < 1.00 are no longer officially supported.
The source code for those older versions is about to be discarded,
and the "upward compatibility" provision for supporting obsolete
features is gradually being withdrawn. If you are running an ancient
version of FtpServer, now is the time to upgrade. Note that upgrading
does not require re-registration.

-------------------------------------------------------------------
QUICK INSTALLATION
 1. Unzip the distribution file into a directory of your choice,
for example D:\Apps\FtpServer. If you're upgrading from a
previous version, you should normally unzip into the directory
you were already using to hold FtpServer - that way the new
version will continue to use the existing INI file settings.

 2. If you're upgrading from version 0.52 or earlier, execute
    the command
            LOADPRM *
to copy your existing *.prm files to the server's INI file.
(This is not needed if you're using a version later than 0.52,
or if this is the first time you have installed FtpServer.)

 3. If you're upgrading from version 0.70 or earlier, you need
to convert some of the INI file data to the new format.
The easiest way to do this is with the sequence of commands
            STOREPRM *
            LOADPRM *
(See the manual for other possibilities.)

 4. Optional: to create an FtpServer folder on your desktop,
    run FOLDER.CMD.

 5. Read the INF file.

 6. Run Setup or VIOSetup to create users.
(Alternatively, but only if you're too impatient to read the
manual, run QuickStart.CMD as a "poor man's setup" to create
    one sample user.)

FEEDBACK

To tell me about errors, desired features, etc., send e-mail
to peter@ee.newcastle.edu.au. Alternatively, you can join
the FtpServer mailing list - see the manual for details.

REDISTRIBUTION

You have permission to put copies of this package on other
file archives (BBS systems, FTP servers, software collections on
CD-ROM, etc.) provided that the zip file remains in its original
form. You may charge for the cost of redistribution, but you
may not charge a fee for the FtpServer package itself.
