Synchronet Agoranet How-to by Frank Linhares (Netsurge)
 - 11-29-2011 updated by Access Denied - telnet://bbs.pharcyde.org

This setup guide is for Synchronet and sbbsecho only. This doesn't cover
setting up a mailer like Irex, Argus, or BinkD. If I have time in the
near future I will try to put one together. If this is your first FTN
network then you will need a mailer. Consult google for how to set one up.

This guide is set to help you get Synchronet and sbbsecho setup to join
Agoranet. Unlike other bbs packages, Synchronet has it's own built in mail
tosser and packer, which can be confusing to setup for unexperienced sysop.
You have to fill out the agn_app.txt that is located inside of the
agoranet.zip archive in order to join. Not having a node number for the
network makes this document completely useless.

You will need a copy of agoranet.zip, which can be downloaded from The
Pharcyde (telnet://bbs.pharcyde.org). Inside that archive you will find a
file called agoranet.na which contains a list of echo's. Once you have
that file handy we are ready to begin.

Step 1

The first step we are going to do is setup your node number inside of scfg.
Loading scfg is different from OS to OS. If you don't know how to start
Synchronet's config program scfg, please visit http://synchro.net/docs to
learn howto.

If you are already a member of an FTN then your Agoranet node number will be
added in as an AKA, if this is your first FTN then put it in as the Main
address.

Step 2

Next we are going to create a message group for all of the Agoranet echo's.
Back out to the main menu of scfg by hitting the esc key a few times. Once
you are back at the main menu we are going to go to message areas. Inside
the Message Groups menu we are going to want to add a new area by moving
the lightbar to a blank area and hitting enter. Enter Agoranet for the long
name and Agoranet as the short name. Then move the lightbar to the newly
created message group and hit enter.

Now we are going to import all of the Agoranet echos. This is where the
agoranet.na file comes in handy. Go down to Import Areas and choose
FIDONET.NA and layout the full path including the filename to agoranet.na.

Now highlight the first echo in the group and hit enter. Scroll down to
Network Options and hit enter.

is an alias-allowed network and does not allow anonymous posts. Make sure you
have those two options set properly as listed below.

Back out of the menu until you get to the Agoranet Group menu. Remember to
say yes to save changes. Now we are going to select Clone Options. This
will clone the options from the first echo to all of the other echo's in the
group. This will save us a ton of time and repetitive typing.

* IMPORTANT * Head back into the Sysop's Only Echo and set USER = 1 as the
access requirement. This will ensure that the sysop will be the only person
with access to that specific echo.

Next we are going to choose Export Areas. This will export the location of
the areas for us. This is needed for sbbsecho.

Make sure that you choose AREAS.BBS (SBBSecho) and NOT AREAS.BBS (MSG).
For uplink put in 46:1/100 and leave the default filename as is.

Congratulations, we have setup the first part of the Synchronet config.

Step 3

Next we are going to focus on getting sbbsecho setup, which is Synchronet's
built-in echomail scanner and tosser. To save some time and make things easy, we
will be working directly with the sbbsecho.cfg file instead of using the gui.

Depending on your current setup, you might already be a member of an FTN.
We will go through both scenarios.

* Already a member of an FTN *

If you are already connected to an FTN like Fidonet or Zeronet then all we
need to do is add a few lines.

Open up sbbsecho.cfg which is located in your sbbs/ctrl directory. An
example config with an established FTN might look something like this:

	NOTIFY 1
	SECURE_ECHOMAIL
	FUZZY_ZONE
	FLO_MAILER
	LOG_LEVEL 6
	SECURE_INBOUND /usr/fido/inbound/
	OUTBOUND /usr/fido/outbound/
	CRASH 1:154/10
	PACKER ZIP 0 504B
  		PACK /usr/bin/zip %f %s
  		UNPACK /usr/bin/unzip -j %f -d %s
	END
	USEPACKER ZIP 1:154/10 1:ALL 2:ALL 3:ALL 4:ALL 5:ALL 6:ALL
	ROUTE_TO 1:154/10 1:ALL 2:ALL 3:ALL 4:ALL 5:ALL 6:ALL

All we really need to do is add a few entries for your Agoranet uplink.
First we want to add 46:1/100 to the CRASH line so the CRASH line will look
something like this

	CRASH 1:154/10 46:1/100

We also need to add the uplink to your USEPACKER statement, so that should
look something like this..

	USEPACKER ZIP 1:154/10 1:ALL 2:ALL 3:ALL 4:ALL 5:ALL 6:ALL 46:1/100

Last we need to add a route statement to ensure any netmail you send out
gets routed to your uplink. You are not going to append anything to the
current ROUTE_TO statement but add an additional ROUTE_TO statement.

	ROUTE_TO 46:1/100 46:ALL

* First FTN Setup *

If this is your first FTN setup, then all you really need to do is setup your
sbbsecho.cfg file to look like this:

	NOTIFY 1
	SECURE_ECHOMAIL
	FUZZY_ZONE
	FLO_MAILER
	LOG_LEVEL 6
	SECURE_INBOUND /usr/fido/inbound/
	OUTBOUND /usr/fido/outbound/
	CRASH 46:1/100
	PACKER ZIP 0 504B
  		PACK /usr/bin/zip %f %s
  		UNPACK /usr/bin/unzip -j %f -d %s
	END
	USEPACKER ZIP 46:1/100 46:ALL
	ROUTE_TO 46:1/100 46:ALL

Pay close attention to your SECURE_INBOUND and OUTBOUND dirs. These should
point to where you have your inbound or outbound setup in your frontend mailer
