Ok, so you've managed to pull out all of the hairs in your head?
Can't get your fidonet mail working with your Adept BBS?

Welp, bald as I may be now, I am on the way to recovery as I am now pulling
in several hundred messages a day. HOWEVER, I intend to let all brand new
sysops in on what I did STEP by STEP.

1) Goto Config->Active Line->Mailer Settings -- Fill in this information
   Phone # (your phone number)
BPS Rate (your max rate your modem handles)
   Flags (like V32B,V42B)
   Costs (I put zeros)
Errors 200 resyncs and 0 transfer errors
   Mail Proc CMD cmd.exe /c mail.cmd %s
   Select Version 7 nodelist

2) Goto Config->Active Line->Addresses -- This information is YOUR address
   For me: 1:208/613.0@FIDONET
Initially your hub may ask you for a fake address to send netmail.
In my area, I had to pass a little initiation by successfully sending him
a netmail message. Once this was done, I then submitted an application
to the regional hub for a node address. This was what I received and put
it here. Initially, I used 1:3/4.0@FIDONET between me and my hub as my
fake address. Work this one out with your hub first!

3) Goto Config->BBS->General Settings
Max Msgs Per Mail Packet: 1500 (your pref)
Max. Echo/Netmail Cost: 0 (your pref)
   System Name: The Alternate Reality
   SysOp Name: Christopher Johnson
   Origin Line: The Alternate Reality! * AdeptXBBS * 28.8 * (1:208/613.0)
QWK BBS ID: ALTREAL (your pref)

4) Goto Config->BBS->New User Defaults
Insure you give credits on the safe side.
   I put 100

5) Goto Edit->Message Areas
   Create each Echomail area.
Select Force Public, Compression, and Require Real Name
   Path (for me) D:\ADEPT\MESSAGE_BASES
IMPORTANT!!!-> Put YOUR address in ADDR! ADDR:1:xxx/xxx.0@Fidonet
If you do not do this, you will be kicked out to your message menu
after trying to input a mesage!

6) Next thing you need to do is configure your Gatekpr.ctl.

--- Gatekpr.ctl

INBOUND D:\ADEPT\MAILER\PASSWORD_Inbound_Mail
INBOUND D:\ADEPT\MAILER\PUBLIC_Inbound_Mail
INBOUND D:\ADEPT\MAILER\UNLISTED_Inbound_Mail

^^^^^ This routing sends my CRASH mail straight to my hub.
Insure that you have the correct archiver you want! ZIP and UNZIP should work
fine for most--my hub is an AMIGA system and he uses ARC so I use it too.
(Makes sense right?)

7) Next insure that your area.control file is setup!

--- Area.Control
ECHO OS2 30 1:208/601.0@Fidonet
ECHO OS2BBS 31 1:208/601.0@Fidonet

ECHO OS2HW 34 1:208/601.0@Fidonet
ECHO OS2PROG 35 1:208/601.0@Fidonet
ECHO OS-DEBATE 36 1:208/601.0@Fidonet
ECHO VALLEY4SALE 40 1:208/601.0@Fidonet
ECHO FOR-SALE 41 1:208/601.0@Fidonet
ECHO NET208 50 1:208/601.0@Fidonet
^^^^^ Insure the echo conference name is exact and matches the message
area designated in your edit->Messages setup.

Important! If your mail does not toss correctly, it could be because the
address in this file does not match the sending address received
            in your packet!
When I received my packet, I quickly copied it to a temp directly
for testing purposes in case it tossed wrong.
I systematically found out that my hub sends its mail as
1:208/601.0@Fidonet. However, his main address is 600.0.
Originally I had the above line as 600.0 and the mail would not
toss. Lesson learned! After some retossing, I put 2 and 2
            together.

8) Next insure that your archivers file is setup correctly! Here is mine for
   reference:

;This entry is for ZIP 1.9/UNZIP 5.0 (available in 32-bit versions)
;Move these lines ahead of PK(UN)Zip above to make this the "preferred"
;archiver for Zip archives.
;NOTE: ZIP 1.9 has a bug in ZIP.EXE -j that sometimes flairs up
;with AV's build command (internal logic error). Probably best to
;stick with PKZIP until they get it fixed.

9) You must also download from your hub the latest nodelist!
I use QNODE as my compiler. Edit the QNODE.CFG to your information.
Remember that the address is YOURS!

10) The only place that your hub address goes in is the Routing in the
Gatekpr.ctl and in the Area.Control echo statements.

OK! Now that we have this setup. Troubleshoot Troubleshoot Troubleshoot!!!
I hope I have reached a lot of people and that I may have solved some
problems. I find Adept a great BBS and my donations are rolling in after
only 8 days. Why? The most common comment I get is that it is so fast!
(also, my ANSI is simple and professional looking)

If you have any questions, netmail Christopher Johnson at 1:208/613.0@Fidonet
or put it into the public domain for the benefit of all.

Respectfully,

Christopher Johnson
